Designing Brands People Want to Step Into
I’ve always been really drawn to brands that create more than just a product or service.
The kinds of brands that feel warm.
Grounded.
Intentional.
The ones you walk into and instantly feel something.
You take a breath and you’re relaxed. You physically sense a shift in your nervous system.
Recently, I started exploring this feeling through a tropical nursery café brand called Canopy House, a space designed to blend lush greenery, warm coffee and slow living together in a way that feels immersive and calming.
Not just somewhere people quickly buy a plant and leave.
But somewhere they wander slowly.
Sip coffee in the garden.
Feel inspired by the atmosphere.
Reconnect with nature a little.
When creating the visual direction, I wanted everything to feel earthy, soft and elevated without becoming overly polished or corporate.
Rich olive greens inspired by tropical foliage.
Warm espresso tones pulled from coffee and timber.
Natural textures.
Editorial typography.
Layers of warmth and softness throughout the brand.
Because for me, good branding has never just been about “looking nice”.
It’s about creating a feeling. A shift in someones body.
The strongest brands tend to feel aligned in every detail. From the colours and photography through to the customer experience itself. There’s a sense of care behind them.
And honestly, I think people can subconsciously feel that.
Especially now, when so many businesses are moving quickly and blending into each other online.
I’ve always loved creating brands that feel thoughtful, feminine, grounded and emotionally connected to the spaces they’re building.
Brands that feel human.
Here are a few simple ways to begin refining your brand this season:
• Review your visual consistency
Look at your website, social media and marketing materials side by side. Do they feel cohesive, or disconnected?
• Simplify your colour palette
Most strong brands use restraint. Often, fewer colours create a more elevated and recognisable feel.
• Create a clearer photography direction
Think about the mood your imagery creates. Warm? Minimal? Organic? Luxurious? Consistency matters more than perfection.
• Refine your fonts
Too many typefaces can quickly make a brand feel cluttered. A thoughtful pairing can completely shift how professional your business feels.
• Focus on how your brand feels, not just how it looks
The strongest brands create atmosphere. Think about the experience you want people to have when they interact with your business.
Sometimes the quieter seasons are the most powerful times to strengthen the foundations of your brand. As we move into winter, it feels like such a beautiful time to slow down slightly, reconnect with your vision and quietly nurture the foundations of your business before the busy seasons return again.
If you need support, I am always here.
